Iker Casillas has indicated that he may have to leave Real Madrid to again become a first-team goalkeeper.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner has been a virtual spectator in recent times at the Bernabeu, consigned to the bench by former manager Jose Mourinho and current incumbent Carlo Ancelotti.

And now Casillas’ club situation is being transferred to the international arena, where he was dropped to the bench for the first time in years, the in-form Barcelona custodian Victor Valdes given the gloves for the recent World Cup qualifier against Belarus.

And after Spain booked its flight to Brazil 2014 against Georgia, where Casillas returned to the starting lineup, Casillas admitted he may have to leave the club where he has played his entire career to re-discover competitive football.

“If in three months the situation has not changed and I am asked the same question, maybe I will answer that I am thinking about leaving,” Casillas was quoted as saying in El Pais.

However, Casillas reiterated his desire to at Real Madrid "forever" and to “compete and play more." /ESPN
