Florentino Perez says that it would be "difficult" for Iker Casillas to leave Real Madrid during the January transfer window.

Last season, Casillas had found himself left on the bench for the second half of the campaign, with then-coach Jose Mourinho instead opting to stick with Diego Lopez, who deputised for the Spain international when he suffered a hand injury earlier this year.

During the summer, Casillas was linked with Arsenal, but a move failed to materalise and it was widely expected that Casillas would be the club's No. 1 again this season.

But although new Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti has stuck with Lopez in the early stages of the 2013-14 campaign, Perez cast doubt on the skipper being able to leave the Bernabeu when the transfer window reopens.

"It'll be difficult for him to leave in [the next transfer window]," he told Cadena SER.

"[Mourinho]'s decision on dropping Casillas was made for sporting reasons. He gave him a little warning and then after that it was because he was injured."

Perez also claimed Real fans are trying to motivate striker Karim Benzema, who has come in for criticism from the stands in recent weeks.

"I think the crowd whistle Benzema to motivate him," he added.

"I've even heard fans whistle [Real Madrid legend Alfredo] Di Stefano."
